1. Snatch: work up to opener (~90%) and do 3 singles
2. Clean and jerk: work up to opener (~90%) and do 2 singles
It's competition week everyone! The Washington Open is this Saturday down at Thrush, and our gym meet is this Sunday. It's time to get recovered, get your mind right, and get ready to rock! This week will be a taper week to do just that. We work up to our opening weights today and hit some singles to get comfortable and dial it in. Tomorrow will be lighter, and Thursday will be really light in terms of volume. Again, the goal this week is to GET RECOVERED so you can make the lifts you are capable of next weekend. We are not going to be trying to set new PRs this week. Going light this week in weightlifting does NOT mean you can hit it extra hard in CrossFit this week. If you want to be your best on Saturday or Sunday, you need to back it off this week! We will be getting back at it after this weekend (and fundamentals), I promise.
So, how do you determine your openers? Openers should be weights you feel wholly confident with, and make really consistently. REALLY consistently. It's fine for this to be WELL under what you are capable of, and we can play with it a little bit this week and when we are warming up on Saturday and Sunday depending on how you are feeling that day. Making that first lift gives you a huge confidence boost for your second and third attempts, and we can make big jumps if we are feeling good. Remember, in competition, you don't get to go back down once you make an attempt; the weight on the bar can only increase! A good starting point is probably 90% of your best as an opener. We can tweak it from there depending on how comfortable you feel with that weight, and how you are feeling.
