Wow, what a weekend! We had a total of eight Industrious athletes compete at the Dariotis Memorial meet at Thrush Sports Performance Center on Saturday, and many more lifted in our gym meet on Sunday. Michelle, Steph, Andy, and Jeremy all lifted in their first meet on Saturday, and all of them did great! Molly, Tommy, Stephen, and myself also lifted. Lots of great performances, PRs, and we even managed to take home four medals! Michelle took 3rd in the 75 kg class, Steph took 1st in the 58 kg class, Molly took 3rd in the 69 kg class, and I managed to take 3rd in the 85 kg class. What a great showing! Piper also made her debut as a weightlifting coach, and we certainly couldn't have handled such an overwhelming day without her! That afternoon men's session was HUGE, and Piper did a great job of counting attempts to help us time warm-ups in the warm-up room, making sure everyone was on the platform when they needed to be, and being there for our lifters. Awesome work Piper. Also, special thanks to everyone who came out to support our lifters. I think we have already established ourselves as having probably the biggest group of supporters at these meets. Let's keep it up!
Everyone who didn't lift on Saturday (and even who did) got the chance to lift in the comfort of our own gym on Sunday in our second gym meet. Lots more great performances and PRs! We recognized the top three men and women based on Sinclair total and awarded them some sweet wood-burned, pecan-stained "woodies" for their efforts! For the ladies, we had Gretch in third place, Kim (visiting from Kitsap) in second place, and Steph with her second win of the weekend in first place. For the men, Chris took third, Colin (also visiting from Kitsap) took second place, and John took first. This was the first meet for many of our lifters, and everyone did awesome! All in all, a fantastic weekend from a coaches standpoint. I am proud to coach each and every one of you.
And just like that, the 12-week cycle has come to an end. I have been very pleased with the results of this last cycle. I think all the PRs in the last two weeks speak for themselves. I certainly have learned a lot from this past cycle and will be making a few tweaks, but for the most part we are going to stick with what has worked for us for this next 12-week cycle starting today. If you've been waiting for a good opportunity to get started in weightlifting, now is the time! Starting a new cycle and anticipating some new faces means we will be spending a little extra time with technique work this week and making sure everyone is caught up to speed. Don't worry, there will still be plenty of heavy lifting. I don't know about you all, but I can't wait to get started with this new cycle and see what crazy PRs everyone sets at the end of another 12 weeks!
